The Brief

The construction industry has always faced challenges in maintaining safety compliance and managing site documentation efficiently. Traditional paper-based safety checklists and manual reporting often result in delays, data loss, and lack of real-time visibility.

The client, People in Construction, envisioned building a comprehensive digital safety management platform that ensures every worker and contractor follows safety protocols before starting work. The idea was to digitize safety workflows like SWMS (Safe Work Method Statements) and Toolbox Talks, allowing site managers to track compliance, report hazards, and communicate instantly — all from a unified system.

The goal was not just to create a basic safety tool, but a smart, user-centric solution that connects the entire workforce — from field workers to administrators — and promotes a “Safety-First” culture on every site.

To bring this vision to life, the client partnered with Solvios Technology to design and develop an integrated web and hybrid mobile application that would simplify safety processes, improve accountability, and enhance productivity on construction sites across Australia.

The Challenge

  • The customer sought to develop a stable platform that incorporated both a web application and a hybrid mobile application. They sought an app that would provide safety management tools to all building sites.
  • The client prioritized the safety of workers and contractors. They intended to create an app that ensured workers had the necessary safety gear, such as helmets, gloves, and shoes, before undertaking any tasks that could harm them.
  • The platform should let more than one person take on different roles, such as supervisor, worker, contractor, or administrator. Creating an app with a basic UI/UX that people could easily grasp was the challenging part.
  • Ensuring that data is always up to date on both mobile and internet platforms, allowing people to easily communicate with each other. It should also be in line with compliance that is easy to monitor and maintain.
  • Adding a secure payment gateway (Stripe) to handle subscriptions and services.
  • Building infrastructure that can handle a lot of construction projects and massive data volumes while being fast.

The Solution

  • Keeping the client’s unique needs in mind, we developed an app that was simple to use and processed safety checks, reporting, and compliance monitoring over a few clicks.
  • We opted for a hybrid setup to allow the application to work across both Android and iOS platforms. Our professionals used a Laravel backend and a MySQL database to ensure reliability.
  • We added Firebase to receive real-time updates, which allows alarms and syncing to occur immediately instead of requiring manual refreshes.
  • Stripe handled payments, making it easy and secure to manage subscriptions.
  • Different dashboards were created for workers, contractors, managers, and administrators, each one displaying exactly what they needed to see.
  • To maintain consistent performance, we utilized a DevOps pipeline with automated deployment and monitoring.

The Results

  • A complete safety-management system that took all the paper forms and checklists.
  • The team used SWMS, Toolbox Talks, and day-to-day compliance logs, and turned them into one digital platform.
  • Before any construction work begins, contractors and site crews can now walk through digital safety checks on their phones. It’s reliable, faster, and effective to keep the team in sync.
  • The technology now automatically keeps track of compliance and alerts supervisors to anything that needs their attention so that there is no paperwork later.
